Dark was the night and chaotic the streets when we arrived in Amritsar, the city which is the very base of Sikh Religion and where iconic Golden Temple (Harmandir Sahib) locates. I was not crashed with the city at the first moment, actually it did not seem to be a good place to visit at the beginning. However, in less than half and hour all the chaos and darkness was replaced with peace and brightness in Golden Temple. In spite of the fact that Golden Temple is not one of the top in the populist travel lists, it definetely deserves more.
The prays you hear in the temple while you walk, the colors, the view of main part of the temple in the middle of the pool area all takes you as soon as you enter from one of the four gates, one of each representing 4 main religions for Sikhs’ consideration. This visit was by far one of my best explorations in my life, even more magnificent than the Taj Mahal.
There you see a number of people serve in temple who are working volunteerly which shows how much locals care about this place. Once you visit Golden Temple you better understand an important part of Indian Culture for sure.
More of this, you see people in the temple and around the city who are Hindu indeed and wonder how come they live so together in peace? Even they wear bracelets which are signs of Sikh Religion. It is actually so simple to explain how? These people so respectful to each others’ religion and even the religion became kind of culture of the local population that you feel like they are “Hindu-Sikhs” or vice verca, which is a great lesson for the other part of the world.
Initial feeling at Amritsar was a bit strange that I felt this place was a place should be a hot spot for tourism but I wondered where to find a decent place to accomodate. Actually you may find some hotels for sure, however is this what we, the travelers, look for? I mean tourists may keep looking for hotels (In india I am not sure how much a Hotel may satisfy a “Tourist”), but travelers look for a place that they can interact with people, and understand the culture and environment in detail and sincere way. So I was lucky that I was staying at a close friend’s home.
But what about the others? You got my point aren’t you? I mean there had to be a hostel! And finally there is a boutique hostel in Amritsar which is designed to give guests the Punjabi culture while providing Europe quality facilities with clean and cozy environment so close to the restaurants and attraction points at the same time! This was a dream once.
Actually what I value in such places is the owner, the vision and the experience of the owner is a sign of everything and quality. This Hostel’s owner is a real traveler and this guy knows how to make friends and so passionate about being a good host!
Guys now what you need to do is just jot down “Golden Temple” to your “to be visited soon list” and check http://www.inn-dia.com for a pretty cool and comfortable accomodation and guidance in Amritsar. You know what, I have not seen such a fantastic Website for a Hostel! That basically shows the quality! Even if you do not take the amritsar visit part, just visit the website!
